Bulk trucking is truck-based shipping that helps people transfer bulk materials from one place to another. Freight companies offer bulk trucking services and any freight can be considered bulk freight if the items inside the truck are sold by the volume or by weight. Unlike other types of shipping that are sold individually and are packaged individually as well, bulk freight or transport is often used for liquids i.e. gasoline. Experienced trucking companies handle these types of moves since gasoline is flammable.
For those who do not have any experience in bulk trucking or do not know anything about bulk trucking at all, if you see a truck with the FLAMMABLE sign on its body that is most probably gasoline or gas (gasoline in air form) and these products are highly dangerous.
Bulk trucking companies also transports solids such as grains. Do not worry though, bulk trucking companies have their own niche. For example, one delivers gasoline and gasoline alone while another delivers grains and concentrates on the said product.
Bulk carriers specialize in transporting certain materials because every product has its own special instructions for handling. The main job of such freight companies is to transport their products from a storage are to a processing facility. In the case of grains, it comes from the storage or production area and it is transported to where the product is packaged. After that, the truck takes it again to another place –this time a distribution facility so it can be sold.
Bulk carriers are very different from trucks that carry equipment because bulk trucking companies have to make sure that the trucks they use are completely sealed because for one, the materials are not yet in their retail packaging.
Bulk trucking companies charge its clients by the mile so basically, the longer the hauls, the higher the rates. The weight of the material or the danger in transporting is can also play a role in the trucking rates. For example, if you want to transport a certain type of chemical or a hazardous material, it will be a bit expensive for you per mile.
